NESAC was established with the objective of promoting South Asia as a community and serving thereby the aspirations of the Nepali people for peace, cooperation and development in Nepal and the region. It believes that research studies and interactions on relevant issues are necessary for peace and development. It is, therefore, an institution inspired by the understanding and commitment of its members to the need for more intense search for regionally-sensitive national goals and strategies and the possibilities of supplementing national development endeavor by increased regional understanding and cooperative efforts on the one hand and expanded cooperation at the South Asian regional level on the other.
NESAC was legally registered under the Nepal Society Registration Act, 2034 in 1993. Its purpose, as stated in the preamble of its by-laws, is to engage in research studies and exchange of ideas and information with the objective of promoting goodwill and cooperation among the peoples and countries of the region. Through appropriate discourses and actions it contributes to the development of the economy, civil society and the consolidation of the democratic processes in this part of the world.
NESAC is politically impartial and firmly committed to democratic values and humane governance which it wishes to see strengthened in Nepal and the region as a whole. A broad-based development propelled not only by economic efficiency but also by the basic human values of equity and justice that permit all people to lead their lives productively and with dignity is for NESAC an integral element of democracy and good governance.
Mission:
NESAC, non-profit making think tank NGO works in research, development, publication, dialogues, workshops and information dissemination sector to:
CONVENE the leadership of the academicians, intellectual, practiceners and professional community and other key stakeholders to engage and address critical and emerging issues involving their work;
PROMOTE effective policies and a healthy environment to strengthen the work of non-profit making organizations engaged in academic, research and development, publication and increase incentives for funding and support;
CHAMPION accountability, effective collaboration and coordination amongst and within the government, donors and academicians, intellectual, development practiceners, professional community and other key stakeholders sectors;
IDENTIFY and communicate the important role and contribution of the non-profit making organization working in research and development, publication and information dissemination, advocacy and claim litigations sector in Nepal;
PROVIDE a centre of excellence, which collects, collates, analyses, documents and disseminates information;
LEAD independent organizations to help shape their future and the future of the society they serve.
Institutional objectives:
NESAC is committed to protect the civil and political rights and the others human rights standard of peoples. It advocates for livelihoods, rights over political economic and natural resources of the peoples. It is always pro-activism to the inclusion of marginalized, disadvantaged and vulnerable peoples in political, economic, social and cultural fronts.
